What real estate nightmare? Home ownership remains a big part of the American dream, according to a new survey.
Trulia.com reported 72 percent of respondents described home ownership as part of their “personal American dream.” That’s down from 77 percent at the start of the year.
The survey also polled renters on their real estate ambitions. Almost 75 percent said they wanted to buy a home, while 27 percent said they had no interest in buying. Of those interested in switching from renter to home owner, the biggest barrier cited was not having enough money for a down payment.
“Generally, people are very positive about home ownership,” said Pete Flint, CEO and founder of the real estate search site. “What we’ve seen enter the market is a dose of realism.’
